Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
