Dominant Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The 27-year-old captured four titles β the most on tour β including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 match record, and collected a historic Β£11m in tournament winnings.
She garnered nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after making five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz won three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
