Enthusiasts looking forward to the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait too much longer. An free-to-play trial experience will become available on January 7th, providing a sizable look into the game's initial chapters. Importantly, any advancement earned within this demo will be able to be imported directly into the main game upon its February release.

Beyond Just a Straightforward Re-release: The Thorough Transformation

This title is a comprehensive reimagining of the seminal year 2000 RPG, initially titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant step away from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the recently launched HD-2D versions, this remake embraces a charming 3D aesthetic. Environments have been crafted to look like detailed miniature worlds, with party members sporting a delightful toy-like appearance.

"Even with the previous port, the story was remained quite long. Therefore, we came to a conclusion that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this adventure for modern players."

Key Gameplay Enhancements & Updates

Square Enix have implemented several enhancements to update the classic experience. These include:

• Expedited Field Encounters: Inspired by contemporary role-playing games, weaker foes can now be dispatched instantly on the overworld map eliminating the need for initiating a separate turn-based combat screen.
• Adjustable Combat Speed: Players have the option to speed up combat animations to rapidly power through easier encounters.
• New Job System: A completely new character role was created for this remake. Additionally, party members now have the capacity to take on a secondary vocation, greatly expanding customization possibilities.

These changes are aimed at tackle one of the original game's most noted points of feedback: its daunting length. The original main quest was known to require more than 100 hours to finish. The reimagined version was specifically reworked to refine flow and reduce any repetition.

Curious players can begin exploring the transformed world of DQ7 firsthand when the complimentary trial releases on Jan. 7. The full game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be scheduled to launch on 5th February 2026. It will be released on a broad selection of systems, such as Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
