The Red Devils have announced the departure of manager their Portuguese head coach after a brief and turbulent 14-month stint in charge. The announcement comes following a growing disagreement over January funds and even with the team's recent upturn in form.

Relations between the manager and the club's leadership, particularly director of football Jason Wilcox, had been deteriorating for a period. A Struggling Reign

On paper, the Portuguese manager's time at Old Trafford was undistinguished. He departs with a record of victories of less than 39 per cent and a league points average of just 1.24 in the top flight. The team suffered more defeats than it won in the calendar year 2025.

However, his last matches in charge showed some resilience. United lost just one of his last eight matches and currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, just three points off the prized fourth place.

In the short term, former player Darren Fletcher will take charge on an temporary basis. He is scheduled to be in the dugout for the upcoming league fixture against the Clarets.

For the permanent role, oddsmakers and pundits are suggesting a range of potential candidates. Names being linked include Spanish tactician Xavi, Oliver Glasner, Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate, and another promising coach.
