This winter transfer market is always a time of significant rumour and possible major moves. Several notable footballers are being linked with moves away from their current teams. We examine a selection of the top names who are poised to be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to reach the AFCON, this has left the player available, reports suggest a significant transfer is close. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a substantial buy-out clause active for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest developments point to Manchester City have emerged as his signature. Other suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to other targets, potentially opening the door for teams like Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

The England defender has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his contract due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's final chance to obtain a transfer fee for their skipper. A host of top sides, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. However, a January departure is considered difficult, especially given the manager's reliance on the player.

B. Johnson

The Welsh winger has found starting minutes hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Despite being the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a small number of league matches. Reports suggest the London club would be willing to consider a transfer for the correct valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford additionally showing an inquiry.

Spurs rate the Welsh international at around forty million pounds.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be poised for a return to the English top flight after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Still only 28, and with his contract ending in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible bargain. Clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spain that he would be prepared to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as the third option at Barça following new coach Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January departure looks highly likely. Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that move now appears off. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing curiosity in the keeper.

I. Toney

This proven English striker has continued finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his dwindling hopes of being in the England World Cup. But, securing a deal presents major hurdles. His current club do not wish to part with him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages make any agreement complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United are all linked as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

This energetic English midfielder attracted considerable interest in the off-season but stayed at Atlético Madrid. Having limited starts in La Liga this term, he may be keen to find more playing time ahead of the World Cup. United have been strongly connected, and a move back to Selhurst Park, where he shone on a temporary deal, is also a option, though financial constraints could be a stumbling block.

Harvey Elliott

Although excelling and being named the best player award at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, this young midfielder has struggled for minutes during his loan spell at Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the temporary transfer will not be made permanent. Due to specific rules regarding playing for two clubs in a season, a move back to his parent club before next season seems to be the only viable solution.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey attacker is in fine form for Juventus this term. As his current contract running down, many Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the situation. The Turin club are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy agreement but face a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. Following starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ first team. This teenager is widely expected to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing strong competition from Real Madrid for a deal valued at around £22 million.
