Ten sentenced of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of circulating false claims regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the husband and wife's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.
Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
