Just as bad weather hit the northern region the prior day, City swept the visitors away at the their home ground. It was a statement 3-0 triumph for the City coach's side owing to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that truly announced their championship potential as they strengthened their position at the WSL pinnacle.

Back-to-Back Losses for Manchester United

This result signalled consecutive league setbacks for Skinner's side for the maiden instance since last May, placing them a significant margin off the top team with their championship aspirations severely dented.

The Red Devils' ability to juggle domestic and European football with a small squad has been a frequently analyzed topic since they secured entry to the European competition. The home side, meanwhile, could have increased their cushion when a excellent Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it did not affect the result to the hosts. Having failed to beat any opponent who ended above them the previous campaign, City's side now have victories against Arsenal and United to place them in a commanding situation after the opening fixtures.
